SM Hotels to Add Over 1,300 Rooms by 2029
SM Hotels and Convention Corp. (SMHCC), the hospitality division of SM Prime Holdings Inc., is embarking on a significant national expansion initiative, with plans to complete seven new hotel projects by the end of 2029. These developments aim to enhance the company’s footprint across key locations in the Philippines, catering to both leisure and business travelers. Each project is strategically designed to reflect the unique culture and hospitality of the regions they serve while ensuring state-of-the-art amenities and services. This ambitious expansion underscores SMHCC’s commitment to enhancing the country’s tourism infrastructure and providing exceptional lodging experiences.

The strategic expansion plan will increase the SM property group’s hotel portfolio from 10 to 17 properties, enhancing their total room inventory from 2,602 to an impressive 3,923 rooms. This represents a substantial capacity growth of 51 percent, significantly boosting their presence in the hospitality market. Notably, the majority of this new inventory—comprising 969 rooms—is projected to be operational by the year 2028, aligning with the group’s long-term growth objectives.
To support this ambitious five-year growth plan, SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) has outlined a comprehensive capital expenditure program valued at P10 billion. This funding will be meticulously sourced from the company’s internally generated cash flows, ensuring that the expansion is financially sustainable and strategically aligned with their overall business goals.
A total of six new hotels will be established under the Park Inn by Radisson brand, alongside one additional hotel that will operate under the Radisson brand. This strategic expansion significantly enhances SMHCC’s presence within the midscale and high-end hospitality segments. Furthermore, it capitalizes on the synergies available through SM Prime’s extensive network of diverse properties, which encompasses retail, residential, and commercial developments. This collaboration not only broadens SMHCC’s portfolio but also aims to provide guests with a seamless experience across various locations and services, ultimately reinforcing the company’s competitive position in the marketplace.
“This rollout reflects our belief in the long-term potential of the Philippine domestic travel and tourism market,” explained SMHCC executive vice president Peggy Angeles. “We are building on the strength of regional tourism while delivering quality accommodations that enhance the value of our ecosystem of malls, events spaces and mixed-use developments.”
Only one of the new SM hotels will be located in the bustling urban expanse of Metro Manila, while the remainder will be strategically positioned across key regional growth corridors in the Philippines. Specifically, two hotels will be established in Calabarzon, a region known for its proximity to both Metro Manila and various tourist destinations. Central Luzon will see the addition of one hotel, capitalizing on its increasing appeal to both domestic and international travelers. Meanwhile, Cebu, a vibrant hub renowned for its rich history and stunning beaches, will gain two new hotels, enhancing the area’s hospitality offerings. Lastly, Laoag, the capital of Ilocos Norte, will welcome one hotel, highlighting the region’s emerging tourism potential.
These locations were meticulously selected based on their tourism potential, taking into account factors such as accessibility, local attractions, and integration with existing SM Prime assets, which include shopping malls, entertainment complexes, and leisure facilities.
Currently, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) boasts a diverse hotel portfolio that spans various categories. This includes luxury accommodations like Conrad Manila, known for its opulent rooms and stunning bay views, and the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu, which offers contemporary elegance and a prime location near local attractions. For leisure travelers, the portfolio features Taal Vista Hotel, famed for its breathtaking views of Taal Volcano, and Pico Sands Hotel, which provides beachside relaxation and adventure in Nasugbu, Batangas. Business travelers are well catered to with properties such as Park Inn by Radisson, strategically located near key business districts, and Lanson Place Mall of Asia, combining convenience with stylish amenities. This comprehensive range of offerings positions SMHCC as a significant player in the Philippine hospitality industry, catering to diverse traveler needs and preferences.
“Our hotels serve as catalysts for local economic activity,” Angeles added. “We are focused on creating long-term value—through jobs, tourism flows and sustained growth that enhances SM Prime’s diversified revenue base.”
